The Mercedes-Benz company introduced the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 sport. Featuring an aggressive design, seven-speed AMG SpeedShift DCT automatic gearbox, and all-wheel drive. It joined the A 35 hatchback and sedan models. The most athletic and fastest-looking member of the extensive A-class family turned out to be the slowest to accelerate to one hundred among fellows with the same engine.
The 2.0-litre turbo engine of Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 pushes 306 hp to all four wheels for a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. It is 0.1 seconds slower than the sedan A 35, and 0.2 seconds slower than the Hatchback A 35. However, this lag is not particularly critical. The maximum speed of all models is the same and is limited to 250 km/h.
Inside, the Mercedes AMG CLA 35 is fitted with an AMG steering wheel with a beveled rim and grip zones trimmed with perforated leather, sports seats with excellent lateral support, and a proprietary combination of two displays that form a widescreen cockpit. The digital instrument panel has three data display modes – Classic, Sport and Supersport. When the last mode is activated, a large round tachometer is displayed in the center. In the side sections, a three-dimensional graphics effect is displayed.
The MBUX interface, used in the A-class family was replaced with AMG-specific menu modifications and graphics output options on a central digital screen. The AMG Dynamic Select mode switch with five programs and sport settings of the stability system. It is equipped with a special menu, with which you can gain access to a host of technical parameters characterizing the riding style. The five program settings include Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport + and Individual mode. When the stability control system is manually turned off, the Sport mode is automatically activated.
Like other counterparts, the CLA 35 under the engine compartment and the bottom have a few additional modifications that increased the torsional rigidity of the body. It also added a redesigned suspension, enhanced brakes, a steering amplifier with a variable gear ratio. There are new adaptive shock absorbers and exhaust with active dampers which can be ordered optionally.
The new Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 has an improved aerodynamic body kit with a small spoiler on the trunk lid. The new model has 18-inch wheels (19-inch wheels are available as an option), sports seats and steering wheel. The front of the new model has a grille with a double horizontal bar, as well as a revised bumper with a special styling design, providing chrome-finished details in the side air intakes.
Technically, the CLA 35 repeats the sedan and hatch: under the hood, the same 306 horsepower two-liter turbocharged engine with a torque of 400 Nm. The distribution of torque is in the range from 100: 0 to 50:50. The transmission is a seven-speed AMG SpeedShift DCT automatic gearbox with two electronically controlled clutches and transmits traction to the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
The premiere of the new Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 will be held on 16th of April at the New York Auto Show. The new Mercedes-Benz CLA 35 AMG will enter the European market in August and take a place a step above the CLA 250 version. For some time this version will be considered top-end, but then this status will move to a more productive performance AMG CLA 45, which will appear closer to the end of 2019 year or in the first quarter of 2020.
